2008 already

I'm chuckling away to myself, remembering my post from a few months ago when I described using our outhouse. It's gotten much the worse for wear in the last few months, now more open to the elements than ever, so now you really use it at the expense of your pride. Well, our septic tank froze up, so we're all making the long trek out back with disturbing regularity. This morning, there I was, comfortably (read this term very loosely) ensconced in our little outside necessary and the horse in the pen next to me leans in to say hi, two cats came wandering in, purring loudly, tracking muddy pawprints all over my exposed lap, a dog reaches in with his paw to tap me on the back and I laughed out loud thinking I was simply going to have to fill you all in on this hilarity. Brent and Monte were both here during this thrilling time (read: no showers, no toilets, no water down a drain at all!) ... good thing we have very adventurous guests.

On the brighter side - Check out the amazing progress on our barn! This first photo faces north, the large door is the horse/equipment door, the smaller windows and door are for the cabin area:

This next photo faces south through those same windows as above. This photo is taken from the cabin area. There will be a living/dining area, kitchen, bed and bath. The bathroom will be a kind of utility bath that we can store horse supplies, wash horse blankets and etc, so it will have an entrance from inside the barn, approximately where I'm standing to take the photo.

This next one is still facing south, just taken from the other side of the barn, still facing out the cabin windows. Those "wings" on either side with lower roofs (well you only see one in this photo, but you get the idea) will be the stalls. 6 individual stalls on one side and just an open-front protected shed on the other because our horse aren't used to being stalled. That way they can all gather under some shelter without having to be locked up in a stall. Plus it houses a LOT more horses than just 6 more stalls would do.

Thanks again, all of you who check in on our progress. Life stays about the same health-wise.... I'm awaiting some more test results which will determine what we do from here. As soon as I know what they are I'll share it with you. I've been on a little bit of a break from chemo (with doctor's permission) and enjoying it immensely, but that will change soon, I'm sure. It's SO cold here that I'm not looking forward one bit to losing my hair again, but I may have to whether I want to or not. Bummer!

My computer is still not repaired, so I don't have any fun or lovely pictures to share this time. Hopefully that'll change soon.

Thanks for all the commenting. Can't tell you how wonderful it was to read notes from all of you - it is incredibly encouraging and believe me, some days I need it!

Wow! The barn is looking great! Maybe while there are guys in "construction mode" around there, they could give your privy a little TLC - but then it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining to go use it, would it? :) I bet you were glad you had it when all the house water was out! :) Thanks for the update!

Love the barn!! Way cool! Looks like you have enough room to build you an outhouse in one corner without the "airconditioner and petdoor" :) Did I miss seeing how the computer crash and racing heart turned out or do we know yet? Love your sparkly winter pictures, you have a knack! Mars

You're right Mars, I didn't update on those things, did I? My computer is still dead and possibly going to CO for official data recovery, depending on how much money I want to spend; and my racing heart is improved with medication, but not yet 100%. I hope it slows down soon, it gets pretty weary having it beat like that all the time. :)

So glad you posted again...I was getting worried about you. Assume the racing heart is better? I love your outhouse story and I know the visits to the the little bldg. (with a sun-roof and open door policy) are made when only REALLY necessary. Why not post a picture of it..uuh, made when it's unoccupied! I remember as a kid, when we lived on the conv. grounds, the pipes would freeze in winter & we HATED having to walk to the outhouse that normally was used only 4 days a yr. Ahh, the good old days!

I'm still smiling because of your outhouse story! I hope that has been remedied too! I really like the barn pictures too. I was thinking about it...came to your blog and wah-lah...here it is! :) Good luck in all aspects of "sanity and happiness"! LW

Fun to see the barn pictures. :)
(I'm feeling guilty about not having a longer, more entertaining reply, but the brain has packed it in for the day. Still, I wanted to say hi, at least.)

What a huge barn! Looks like it's big enough for meeting, unless you take into account you'd probably have a bunch of horses breathing down your back, much like the outhouse story (too funny!. Glad to hear you've got a little break from the chemo. Keep up the posts and we'll keep up the reading!--Mike, Traci, Justin and Jarin

LOVE THE BARN!!!! Just thinking about the man hours going into it makes it even more awesome! Well, woman hours too - not trying to be prejudiced to you and Tiff!:)
Sounds like you each get to start the day with some entertainment at the outhouse - that is hilarious! To be honest though, this cold blooded girl can only think about just how freezing cold it must be on a Jan morning to make a run to the outhouse! BRRRR!

Your barn is looking great - it is fun to see the progress. It seems kind of magical to those of us who aren't working out in the cold every day - to see it change so much between times. But for you who are working hard at it, I know there is only hard work to thank. At least no one will be dawdling in the outhouse these days I am sure, so the waiting line should be short! Karen F.

Love the pictures of the barn! Looks like the horses will be living it up! :-)

Hope you can get some help with the 'air conditioned' outhouse.;-)
Sounds a bit breezy to me. Guess that is what make ranchers such hardy stock. Thanks for the giggles and the update on your barn.

It was fun to see you both in the pictures Mel posted of New Years at Monte's.

I love all that you share! I esp like the picture of you two riding off in to the sunset...I may try to find a way to copy that or maybe you could e-mail it to me...IF your computer is back and running! I just shared some of this with my co..and she has already been in reading and looking! You are more looked at than you knew and for sure, than i knew. I'll write more in an e-mail.....thanks for the up-date...
